Virginia Telemental Health Initiative

Building Supports for Underserved Areas and Appalachia

The Virginia Telemental Health Initiative (VTMHI) is a pilot program that aims to expand access to timely and appropriate telemental health services to low-income, un and underinsured patients by working with pre-licensed behavioral and mental health professionals. VTMHI would match pre-licensed behavioral and mental health professionals with supervisors to achieve needed client contact hours while providing pro-bono support in free and charitable clinics.

As part of this program, VTMHI would provide pre-licensed behavioral and mental health providers with telehealth training, educational resources and other supports needed.

Our goal is to break down barriers for supervision, create permanent telemental health providers and strengthen Virginia’s behavioral and mental health workforce pipeline.

We Need Your Input

In order to develop a program that best meets the needs of behavioral and mental health professionals working towards earning licensure, we encourage you to join us in an online focus group where we will explore questions around the structure of the eventual program. Hearing from individuals like yourself will be invaluable as we finalize the details of this initiative.

If you are interested in getting involved in the design of VTMHI, please contact Shannon Cody at shannon@ehealthvirginia.org.
