The
Virginia Telehealth Network (VTN) is a
Commonwealth-wide collaboration with a focused vision of all Virginians having
access to high quality healthcare regardless of their location
— rural, urban or
suburban — and that
their health information will be securely shared among providers using
technologies that support safe and timely care delivery when and where needed.
The VTN has been established to help stakeholders
collectively and cooperatively set the direction and standards for the use of information and telecommunications technologies
as well as related processes and content that will enable Virginia’s
health care community and patients to realize this vision.
Work is
now underway to help transform this vision into reality, in part, through the
VTN’s involvement in
Virginia Stroke Telehealth (VAST) Network which is creating a
systematic approach to greatly reducing the time-to-care for stroke patients in
rural communities.
The VTN’s organizational development has been pursued and
championed through the interests and active participation of organizations and
individuals throughout the Commonwealth, that create, use, support and promote telehealth services including:
-
Academic medical centers
-
State organizations involved
with health care
-
State and local government
entities
-
Regional organizations involved
with health care
-
Colleges, universities and
foundations
-
Health care professionals
The VTN is continually vigilant for
others who can contribute and/or benefit from its ongoing mission.
With ongoing input from its
many members and the interests they represent, the VTN is well positioned to
determine, monitor and continually evaluate the nature of healthcare needs in
underserved and rural areas that can be addressed by existing and future
information and telecommunications technology solutions.
